Wow, we are almost to the end of another fun and educational year at Plumb Elementary! I would like to take this opportunity to announce our PTA Board for 2015-2016.
The Executive Committee Chairs were voted in at the General Meeting on April 24, where the PTA also held a Celebration of Plumb’s cultural diversity:
· President Paul Cooley
· Vice President of Ways and Means Amy Sohoski
· Vice President of Programs Khalila Hansen
· Treasurer Tracy Joyce
· Recording Secretary Shannon Higgenbotham
· Corresponding Secretary OPEN
I would just like to say a few words about each of these outstanding volunteers.
I don’t know Shannon Higgenbotham very well, but each time I have spoken to her, she has always been warm and friendly and positive. She is a teacher at Plumb and I have heard nothing but praise about her. This year she coordinated the 2nd grade bead charm fundraiser to raise funds for a field trip to the Zoo. We are very excited to have the privilege of adding her energy and her positive attitude to our PTA Board as Recording Secretary!
For those of you who attended the “Reflections” Award Ceremony in November, you will remember the wonderful performances by several local artists, including a fun, interactive drum circle by Giving Tree Music (who also performed at Fun Fest in February). Khalila Hansen works with many organizations like this at her full time job, and she is very excited to use these professional contacts to bring many wonderful Programs to our students and families next school year! Her friendly smile and willingness to help is going to make for a great year of Programs next year!
Most of your kids already know Amy Sohoski – she works in the lunchroom at Plumb and sees every single kid every day. She already works hard making sure your kids are eating their nutritious lunches. She has run the Commitment to Character Program for the last several years, has been involved or coordinated the Carnival Auction for 8 years, has served on SAC (School Advisory Council) , and this year took on Coordinating the Fun Fest in February and Chick Fil-A Spirit Nights. Amy has committed so much of herself toward Community Service, never misses a meeting, and will do whatever she can to get the job done. She already does so much that simply adding the title of VP won’t be much of a stretch!
Many of your kids also already know Paul Cooley. He spends a LOT of time at Plumb making sure tardy kids get to class in the morning, proctoring exams, and helping the teachers and office staff in other ways. At the 2013 Plumb PTA Carnival, after not one adult signed up to monitor the Haunted House, he recognized our plight and spent the ENTIRE weekend with his son in the Haunted House with a big fat smile on his face. Because of his desire to help and his ability to recognize a need, he was chosen as the 2013-2014 Plumb Volunteer of the Year. We are very excited that Mr. Cooley will be heading up the PTA next year!
Just a quick word about me: I have been heavily involved in the PTA for the past four years. While I was the Treasurer for two years, I helped with Chick Fil-A Spirit Nights, served on SAC, and coordinated the Walk for Plumb. I have also sold Plumb Merchandise, coordinated the Fall Carnival, and this year served as PTA President. Next year I will be “taking it easy” and taking on the Treasurer role again, supporting our President and whatever else is needed!
