Happy October, Plumb Parents!
Welcome to another fun filled month of PTA Events! Be sure you check the back of the Plumb Pelican Lite for the October Monthly Calendar.
The PTA still has a couple of positions we need to fill on our Board! Please check out our website, www.PlumbElementaryPTA.com for ways you can help. In particular, if you have experience with Quickbooks or are very good with Excel, we are still in need of a Treasurer. Please contact me if you are interested.
You may have noticed that the PTA Carnival, which has traditionally taken place as a Fall Carnival in October, has been moved to FEBRUARY. Instead, be sure to check out our first Annual Family MOVIE NIGHT on Friday, October 24, 2014!
We decided to make this change for a couple of reasons:
1) No Friday off!
The School in Service day falls on a Monday in October instead of a Friday, which is typically the day the Carnival Committee sets up. Since we don’t have all day Friday to set up, we realized we could have carnival pretty much any weekend, which would allow families who typically go out of town on that three day weekend to participate.
2) More Recruiting Time!
February gives us more time to find families to participate in setting up and running Carnival. In past years, Carnival planning has started way back in JULY, when it is very difficult to communicate with families who might like to help.
3) Spread out the fundraising and events!
Having almost all of our fundraisers in the first two months of the year can really be a hardship for many families. There is already so much going on in October – not only PTA events but Softball and Baseball tournaments, etc. And since our Family Social is now taking place in May, February was wide open and in need of a fun event.
4) Clearance Sales!
More time for families to work on Class Baskets! Think about it – Black Friday deals, Post-Holiday sales, REGIFTING! Auction is where the Carnival raises most of its funds. Look for information on how you can help create your class basket in November or December, including a “Class Basket 101” from our own Plumb Auction Basket Savant!
Mid to late October weather can be very unpredictable! We are hoping for some beautiful, cool, February days! And I’m sure Mrs. Kemp and the Teachers will be excited to know it might be too cold for the Dunk Tank! (Don’t worry, we’ll think of something to throw at you).
I’m sure many of you may be disappointed about the lack of a Haunted House, which has been a Fall Carnival tradition for over 10 years. There still may be a way to make a “Fun House’ happen – IF we can find the space and the families to make it happen!
If anyone has ideas and a positive energy and would like to help keep the Plumb Carnival tradition alive, please check out the article posted by Amy Sohoski, Carnival Coordinator, in this edition of The Pelican Post. Our first Carnival planning meeting will be October 7, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the Plumb Library. We need you and your ideas to make this Carnival and Auction a fun event!
