Welcome back to
another school year! We have a lot of exciting things happening this year in
our music department. First, I would like to introduce you to our new Music
Itinerant Mr. Sharp. Mr. Sharp has taught at Plumb before and we are excited to
have him back! He will be here on Wednesday afternoons, Thursdays and Fridays.
Mr. Sharp’s room is Portable G near all of the 4th grade portables.
We have been
hard at work planning curriculum and scheduling performances. A few changes are
happening in Performing Arts at the district level this year. We will now be
administering and end of the year assessment for ALL grade levels. In years
past, we would give a pretest and posttest to 2nd grades and 5th
grades for data collecting. This year, the music teachers will administer an
end of the year assessment to all grade levels K-5. We will be working hard
throughout the year learning more about music theory, melody and of course
keeping up on our rhythm, notes, playing instruments and music history J.
calendars now for some performances that are scheduled during the year! We will
kick off our holiday season with a Kindergarten

and 5th Grade Chorus Winter Concert on Thursday, December 11, 2014

**I need some volunteers
for our 4th and 5th
Grade ChorusConcerts. If you
are interested in volunteering for either one of these concerts please let me
know. I need help lining up the students, passing out instruments during the
performances and set designing. If you have older, high school aged children
who need volunteer hours, this would be perfect!!**
Attention all 4th
and 5th Grade Parents:
We would like you to
be aware that we will be learning to play the recorder in Music Class. A
recorder is a small, whistle-type instrument and is fairly inexpensive to buy.
Mr. Sharp and I will be sending home an informational letter about this
instrument and our curriculum at a later date, but would like you to know about
it now in case you would like to purchase a recorder on your own for your
child. I have seen places such as Target, Wal Mart and Toys R Us carry them in
years past, but I am not sure if they will have them this year. However, music
stores such as Sam Ash on McMullen Booth Rd and Guitar Center on Drew St. do
We are excited to be back and are looking forward to having
a great year with you and our students!
