It seems like this school year has been flying at the speed of light! Here we are in March and preparing to administer the new Florida State Assessment test.
Thank you to all of our families who attended the informational session that was held early in February. Third, Fourth and Fifth grade parents joined our SAC Committee in reviewing information about test questions for the new FSA. We had a chance to visit the Department of Education (DOE) website to get a first-hand look at some of the test criteria and the question format that students will experience on the test. This test is very different from the FCAT. Teachers and students have been preparing for it throughout the year by engaging in rigorous classroom lessons and activities. Students have been reading and synthesizing information, writing to express their thinking, doing hands on science activities and journaling about their learning. They have also been learning many different strategies to solve math problems.
Now is their time to “shine”.
Testing can make us all feel a little anxious and nervous. However, with all of our continued support and encouragement, we can help calm the nerves. This test is an opportunity for our students to showcase what they have learned throughout the year. Please encourage your children to do their very best, attack each question with an “I Can” attitude, and never give up!
The following link is to an inspirational song for the FSA that has been posted to help calm some of those testing nerves and offer encouragement. I hope that you will find it helpful with your children..
As always, thank you for your continued support. Education is a team sport, and we are glad that you are on our team!
