Orlando, Florida - On February 18, 2015, Florida PTA along with the Florida Action for Healthy Kids, Florida Department of Education, Coordinated School Health Partnerships, Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health teamed up to collaborate on a
Healthy Fundraising in Florida Schools webinar.
Florida PTA offered suggestions of the implementation process to developing healthy school teams. These teams will assist with the implementation of the Wellness Policy that school districts will be required to have.
In June 2015, all Title I schools will be required to have a Healthy School Team at their school. Smart Snacks guidelines and Florida's competitive food rule was discussed in detail. The host of the webinar was Melodie Griffin of Florida Action for Healthy Kids. She shared many healthy fundraising ideas.
Working as a collaborative team with these state and community agencies allows our message "Healthy Children, Healthy Future...PTA" to be strong. Florida PTA serves over 300,000 members and believes that a healthy child will be a happy, successful child, not only in academics but in life's offerings.
This webinar came on the heels of Florida PTA Healthy Children, Healthy Future State Summit.
This event was held in Orlando on February 6-7, 2015. PTA members and the public from across the state convened at the Florida PTA State Office on Friday night, bringing together PTA leaders, educators, and health & wellness experts. On Saturday, the remainder of the summit was held at the Florida Hotel and Convention Center. The focus of this event was to explore the connection between healthy students and academic achievement and our at risk population.
Through open conversation and dialogue between our guest speakers, panelists and members, the purpose of this event was to share strategies that will create, support, and maintain a healthy environment within our schools, communities and homes.
Florida PTA is busy planning the next event! On March 15, 2015, Florida PTA's Legislative Team will host the second annual Legislative Conference in Tallahassee. Legislative leaders from across the state will speak to inspire and motivate advocates to take action.
Registration is open to the public and all PTA members. Registration is $55.00 and includes dinner Sunday evening, breakfast and lunch on Monday.
