The Multicultural Club opens its membership at the beginning of each year to students in grades 3 through 5. Our mission is to explore different cultures and promote tolerance.
This year we have studied Native American celebrations that led to the First Thanksgiving. We made Talking Sticks and learned how they were used in tribal meetings. These beautiful creations were displayed in the media center. We also studied how many of our Christmas customs in the United States have come from other countries. We made ornaments that celebrated these countries.
Our big, school-wide project, “The Peace Project”, encouraged all classes to explore the meaning of Peace through writing, discussion and the hanging of decorated Peace signs in hallways and classrooms. Some are still hanging! We crafted 140 paper doves that hung outside the cafeteria. We will “Pass the Peace” in May sending these doves to troops with our school’s annual letters to the troops.
Thank you Plumb Elementary PTA for your financial support! We couldn’t have done it without your help.
