Parent Teacher Association® PTA®...What is it?
Plumb Elementary PTA serves a historical school that is nestled in a beautiful neighborhood in Clearwater, Florida. However, our membership in Pinellas County Council PTA (PCCPTA), Florida PTA, and National PTA gives us a much larger scope and a much louder voice than that of only one school. As a result, we at Plumb PTA have the assurance and the confidence that we are included in and supported by the almost five million members of PTA nation-wide.
Plumb Elementary PTA is a part of the largest volunteer organization in America. PTA spans all 50 states and carries legislative weight at the County, State and National levels as we advocate for our children and their education.
Plumb Elementary PTA is a non-profit organization serving Plumb Elementary School's approximate 800 students, and the families they represent. Join us!
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Oct. 30, 2013)—“National PTA has played a leading role in educating families and communities about the Common Core State Standards and is committed to supporting them every step of the way as states transition to the standards,” said Otha Thornton, National PTA President. “Raising awareness and increasing understanding of the Common Core State Standards remains a high priority. We are pleased to partner with Univision to support its Accion por la Educación! initiative to help engage Hispanic families and the community, ensure they are knowledgeable about the Common Core State Standards, and ensure Hispanic students graduate college and career ready.”
To help educate families about the Common Core State Standards, National PTA has developed a wide variety of tools and resources, including the Parent’s Guide to Student Success. The grade-by-grade guide explains the standards and key items that children should be learning in English and math, features activities parents can do at home to support their child’s learning, and highlights questions parents can ask their child’s teacher. The guide is available to families in Spanish through the website at www.eselmomento.com.
Through a variety of activities on continuing throughout the year, National PTA and Univision will work together to raise awareness and increase understanding of the Common Core State Standards, as well as other educational issues of critical importance to the Hispanic community. For more information about Accion por la Educación!, visit www.eselmomento.com.

PLUMB ELEMENTARY PTA
November is a busy month, with Thanksgiving Holidays right around the corner.
November 13th is "Reflections" due date for submissions. Don't forget to bring your project to the conference room in the school front office between 2:30 and 4 pm on that day. DO NOT just leave your project in the front office for someone else to deliver to us. At least one parent must accompany the student to turn in their submission. Personal responsibility and parental support are two huge components of this competition. See you then!
November 20th is the "Reflections" Awards Ceremony and Reception! An evening of finger foods and classical music to accompany browsing of all the projects. Every student will be recognized at this event, and the winners of each category and the Grand Prize Winner will be announced and presented with their prizes! Feel free to invite family and friends to come and enjoy this refined evening.
If you have not signed up to participate in The Great American Teach-In, you can do so HERE. Won't you consider giving a few minutes of your day on the 21st? (Every "teacher" will receive a FREE Thanksgiving Lunch on the day they teach.) You never know how many lives you may change!
